The Ecoconsciousness Action Plan -
Summary of the Basic Level
The basic level of the Ecoconsciousness Action Plan consists of four main elements:
I) Raising Ecoconsciousness is Critical
The Earth's ecosystems have been ravaged by human activity. Modern industrial growth society is rotten to the core, in terms of ecological sustainability. We are well into the 6th major extinction of species that the earth has seen in the last 4 billion years, this one of course being caused by us. The list of environmental problems is long, and our work is cut out for us for generations to come if we are going to turn things around.
There is no one technology, law, economic policy, or any other single thing that can save us and the earth. There are no easy or quick fixes, especially since as Einstein said, "No problem can be solved from the same level of consciousness that created it."
We must simultaneously:
- Raise our ecoconsciousness, as we
- Address not only the symptoms (and surface causes) of the environmental problems, but
- Solve the root causes of them
II) One key principle
Even through there are no quick fixes or simple solutions, there is one key principle that if properly applied in an integral manner can guide us to solving all of the problems:
"All life is sacred and interconnected"
This key principle should be applied integrally to all aspects of individual and collective human existence, in particular to our cultural (or collective) consciousness, societal systems, and human behaviors, as well as our individual actions, thoughts and inner-being (feelings, beliefs, personality, psyche, etc.)
III) Nine Key Action Items
Each of the three individual areas (action, thought, and inner-being) should be applied to each of the three collective areas (consciousness, systems, and behaviors) when applying the key principle to address the symptoms and root causes of the whole of our environmental problems. This creates nine action areas, each with its own key action item as shown in the table below:
|
Cultural consciousness |
Systems (political, economic, transportation,
agricultural, energy, industry, military, healthcare, etc.) |
Behaviors |
Thought {Mind} |
raise
ecoconsciousness |
transform
systems to be sustainable, equitable, peaceful, holistic, and just |
consider
and communicate environmental impact and awareness in all decisions and
interactions |
inner-being (feelings, beliefs, personality,
psyche, etc.) {Emotional-Behavioral} |
create
a new worldview and 'American dream' that is sustainable, equitable,
peaceful, holistic, and just |
restore
the inner and outer feminine (heal, protect, nurture, empathize, etc.) |
respect,
appreciate, and connect with all life |
Action {Body} |
reduce
ecological footprint |
use
and create sustainable alternatives for daily living |
direct
action to avoid, heal, or stop ecological destruction |
Strive to take some kind of positive action in this regard every day, no matter how small it is. Over time create medium and or large projects that you regularly work on, that allow you to have a more positive impact and on the Earth and all life.
In addition, spend time every day thinking about how to implement the nine key action items into all aspects of your life (thought precedes action - the more one thinks about these things, the more one will naturally implement them in their lives).
